iLive IH818B

$150.00 Released January, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Very well-priced for the comprehensive media support it offers. DVD playback is clear, works well. Sleek, modern visual aesthetic featuring a wood-grain finish on the speakers.

The Cons:DVD tray seems very fragile/flimsy. The physical buttons on the unit itself are a bit flaky, unresponsive. A number of well-known issues (volume cutting out, FM radio not working) often present themselves after only a few weeks of use.

The iLive IH818B is a high-powered, 2.1-channel surround sound system. It’s loaded with an iPod dock, a CD/DVD player, an SD/MMC card slot, a USB thumb-drive interface, and AM/FM stereo radio. It can play nearly any format of media available in the marketplace—save for Blu-ray.

Note that it doesn’t include an LCD screen for watching content. However, it does host a myriad of audio/video outputs for transferring content to a compatible system: progressive-scan DVD, S-Video, component, composite, coaxial digital, etc. Most astonishing about the iLive IH818B, however, is its price, as it retails between only $119 to $179, rendering it extremely affordable compared to similarly-priced at-home surround-sound theater systems.

Volume is too limited for anything more than a small room.
